Description
The Black Diamond® Pure White Crape Myrtle is a standout variety, featuring the first series of true dark-leafed crape myrtles. The vibrant, bright white blooms provide a stunning contrast against the deep, dark foliage, creating a dramatic visual effect in your garden. The blooms reach their peak productivity during the summer and fall months. With its intermediate growth habit, this crape myrtle reaches 10–12 feet in height and 4–5 feet in spread, making it suitable as a specimen or for mass plantings. It’s perfect for lining driveways, fences, or planted in a container on your deck or patio, as long as the container is at least 12 inches in diameter.
Unique Features:
- Bright White Blooms: Vibrant white flowers offer a striking contrast against the dark foliage.
- Dark Foliage: The deep, dark leaves make a dramatic backdrop for the bright blooms.
- Intermediate Growth Habit: Grows to 10–12 feet tall with a 6-8 feet spread, making it ideal for small spaces or mass plantings.
- Low-Maintenance: Drought-tolerant, mildew-resistant, and requires minimal care once established.
Mature Size:
- Height: 10–12 feet
- Spread: 6-8 feet
USDA Hardiness Zones:
- Zones 7–9
- Zones 2–5 (if planted in a container and brought indoors during winter)
Care Instructions:
- Light: Prefers full sun for optimal growth and blooming.
- Soil: Thrives in well-drained, slightly acidic to neutral soil.
- Water: Water regularly during dry periods, but avoid overwatering once established as it is drought-tolerant.
- Pruning: Prune in late winter or early spring to remove dead or damaged branches and shape the tree.
- Fertilizer: Apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring to promote healthy growth and vibrant blooms.
- Pests/Disease: Mildew-resistant and generally pest-free, though monitor for occasional aphids or scale.
- Spacing: Space trees 4–5 feet apart for optimal growth and air circulation.
- Winter Protection (Zone 6): Requires winter protection in Zone 6, as it may die back to the ground and bloom sparsely without it.
The Black Diamond® Pure White Crape Myrtle offers a striking visual appeal with its dark foliage and bright white blooms. Its low-maintenance nature and versatility make it an excellent choice for adding beauty and color to any landscape, whether as a specimen tree, hedge, or container plant.

How to Plant

STEP 2) Once you've located the perfect spot, the hole you are digging must be at least double the width and as deep as the root system you are planting.
STEP 3) Remove the plant from the pot and place the root ball in the hole. The top of the root system should be level with the ground. Before placing the tree or shrub in the hole, use your hands to gently break up the root system.
STEP 4) Once the plant is in place, backfill the hole with native soil and any leftover potting material.
STEP 5) Pack down the soil to eliminate any air pockets.
STEP 6) When finished, water thoroughly.
