Shoal Creek Vitex, also called Chastetree, is a long-blooming small tree (or shrub) that is often planted around porches, patios, and decks for its beautiful summer flowers and its ability to attract butterflies. Chastetree blooms in the summer in clusters of violet flowers that resemble spikes. Besides its beauty, the leaves of the Chastetree also boast of an aromatic quality. The tree is fast-growing and reaches a height and width of about 12 feet. It is hardy in Zones 6-9 and can be planted in full sun or partial shade. Chastetree thrives particularly well in the heat. USDA ZONES: Zone 6, Zone 7, Zone 8, Zone 9.

STEP 1) First, decide on a planting location. Consider carefully what kind of sun, soil, and growing-space your tree or shrub will need.
STEP 2) Once you've located the perfect spot, the hole you are digging must be at least double the width and as deep as the root system you are planting.
STEP 3) Remove the plant from the pot and place the root ball in the hole. The top of the root system should be level with the ground. Before placing the tree or shrub in the hole, use your hands to gently break up the root system.
STEP 4) Once the plant is in place, backfill the hole with native soil and any leftover potting material.
STEP 5) Pack down the soil to eliminate any air pockets.
STEP 6) When finished, water thoroughly.

Plant your vitex in full sun and in well-drained soil. If you are planting in a container, it should be at least 32 inches deep and wide. If planting outside, create a 2 inch layer of mulch around the base after planting. Water once a week for the first growing season. Fertilize your vitex in the spring. Prune to encourage more blooming.

Great customer service! Vitex
Hello Eryn, It sounds as though the one vitex is experiencing transplant shock. We will be sending you information on how to do a scratch test to determine if this is the case. Usually when the leaves fall that quickly after planting means it is transplant shock, even if a sister plant is doing great. The trees have a one year warranty as well so we will get your issue resolved!
