Bonfire is a compact dwarf purple-leaf peach. White-fleshed fruit streaked with red ripens in September late. Fruits are clingstone with firm fruit used for canning, pickling, and pies. It can be eaten fresh but rubbery. Fruit turns red when cooked and makes an attractive pie. Bonfire makes a stunning landscape specimen with showy, pink double flowers in spring. Bonfire can be grown in a patio pot. At maturity, it can reach a height and width between 4-6 feet. USDA ZONES: Zones 5, Zone 6, Zone 7, Zone 8.

Combination orders: Orders containing a mix of bare root plants and potted plants will all ship together. If you have questions about shipping please contact us and we will do our best to assist you.
Bare root orders only: Bare root trees have to be dormant in order to be shipped. We will begin shipping directly after they are harvested. If everything goes according to schedule, bare root shipping will begin the last week in January.
We currently cannot ship to the following states: Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Puerto Rico or US territories. We cannot ship trees internationally.
STEP 1) First, decide on a planting location. Consider carefully what kind of sun, soil, and growing-space your tree or shrub will need.
STEP 2) Once you've located the perfect spot, the hole you are digging must be at least double the width and as deep as the root system you are planting.
STEP 3) Remove the plant from the pot and place the root ball in the hole. The top of the root system should be level with the ground. Before placing the tree or shrub in the hole, use your hands to gently break up the root system.
STEP 4) Once the plant is in place, backfill the hole with native soil and any leftover potting material.
STEP 5) Pack down the soil to eliminate any air pockets.
STEP 6) When finished, water thoroughly.
Water the newly planted tree thoroughly whether outdoors or in a container. Do not add amendments or fertilizer the first year. If the tree is planted in sandy soil, water every three to five days; water about every two weeks when the tree is planted in heavier soils. Container-grown trees may need more frequent watering. It is better to water deeply and infrequently than to water often and shallowly. Reduce watering in the fall and winter.
Fertilize the Bonanza peach tree in the spring and fall outdoors, using a balanced fertilizer such as 10-10-10. Container-grown trees need to be fed more often, but use a product with less nitrogen during the summer. Once fruit sets, spread rotted compost around a garden-grown tree to give it a boost.
Spread a 2-inch layer of organic mulch around the base of the outdoor or container-grown tree during very hot, dry months to help retain moisture and keep the tree's roots cool. Do not allow the mulch to touch the trunk.
Thin the branches as needed to improve air circulation by cutting them out with pruning shears. The tree produces best when pruned for a more open center area, but save heavy pruning for wintertime, while the tree is dormant. Cut away any dead limbs as you find them.
Hand pick some un-ripened fruit to improve the quality of the crop. It is natural for peach trees to drop some fruit in June, but too many peaches may remain. As soon as the fruit is about 1 inch in diameter, remove all damaged fruit and fruit at the end of branches, then thin healthy fruit to 6 to 8 inches apart.
