How to Plant
STEP 1) First, decide on a planting location. Consider carefully what kind of sun, soil, and growing-space your tree or shrub will need.
STEP 2) Once you've located the perfect spot, the hole you are digging must be at least double the width and as deep as the root system you are planting.
STEP 3) Remove the plant from the pot and place the root ball in the hole. The top of the root system should be level with the ground. Before placing the tree or shrub in the hole, use your hands to gently break up the root system.
STEP 4) Once the plant is in place, backfill the hole with native soil and any leftover potting material.
STEP 5) Pack down the soil to eliminate any air pockets.
STEP 6) When finished, water thoroughly.
Care Guide

Plant in well-drained, acidic soil in an area that receives full sun to partial shade. It is generally intolerant of soil extremes (dry or wet). It is also intolerant of many urban pollutants. Make sure the tree has plenty of room to grow to its full size. Mulch creating a 3-4 inch layer at base but leave room at the trunk of the tree. Water regularly for the first few years until your magnolia is established. Magnolias need 40-80 inches of water every year. Prune as needed in winter. They are not particular prone to insects or diseases.

Excellent Result

My DD Blanchard Southern Magnolia arrived in excellent condition, clearly carefully packed and shipped with the box labeled with "live plants" and large arrows pointing to the top of the box to help keep handlers from inverting it or laying it on its side. It's been in there ground for two weeks now, and is doing well. Plan Me Green's email communication has been excellent and timely, including detailed planting instructions. They clearly care a lot about customer satisfaction, and in this, they have succeeded here.
