Water:

During the spring and summer, the gardener needs to ensure that they keep the soil moist. Water every second or third day, depending on the climate conditions in your part of the country. Never let the soil dry out.

Soil:

Use light and airy soil that are slightly acidic in pH. The ideal pH for your prayer plant is between 5.5 to 6.0. Use a potting mix that includes peat moss, as well as a mixture of sand and perlite.

Fertilization:

Give your plant a boost of fertilizer in the early spring. Use an all-purpose liquid fertilizer, and dilute it to half strength.. Never fertilize in the winter.

Propagation:

During the Spring, when repotting, you will gently pull apart the rootball with your fingers. Check that each root clump has a part of the root system and if it does, plant it into fresh compost.

Description

The Maranta Red Prayer Plant is a hardy houseplant that is easy to grow. This vibrant plant boasts large oval deep green to paler green leaves variegated with pinstriped colored markings of red. Its leaf undersides are a purplish red hue. Maranta are known for their unique ability to “pray.” This nastic movement and is the prayer plant’s response to light. During the day the leaves are flat, but at night they move upward as if praying to the heavens. This also allows the plant to conserve moisture at night. 

    This plant is pet and children safe.

    Most orders ship USPS with the packing methods pictured below. Larger orders may ship FedEx. *Please note that we have additional packing procedure for tall, big, and multiple plants. Tall/ big plants are stabilized with a wooden stick and shipped using special inserts that lock in houseplants.

    Like most houseplants, Marantas need a consistently warm spot and bright but indirect light to thrive. Keep the soil moist from spring to autumn, and provide some humidity by misting the leaves daily or standing on a tray of moist pebbles
