Apple Trees - Golden Delicious

Malus domestica
USDA Hardiness Zones: 4-8

Golden Delicious apples are a great all-purpose apple with a delicious flavor. The apples ripen in September and October and are yellow when ripe. They are large, firm, and crisp and are more tart than Red Delicious apples. They can be eaten fresh, used for cooking, or stored for a few months. The Golden Delicious tree requires 600-700 chill hours and is self-pollinating so it does not require another tree with which to pollinate. For planting, apples trees prefer full sun and slightly acidic soil. At maturity they can reach a height of 15-20 feet and a width of 15-18 feet.

How to Plant
STEP 1) First, decide on a planting location. Consider carefully what kind of sun, soil, and growing-space your tree or shrub will need.
STEP 2) Once you've located the perfect spot, the hole you are digging must be at least double the width and as deep as the root system you are planting.
STEP 3) Remove the plant from the pot and place the root ball in the hole. The top of the root system should be level with the ground. Before placing the tree or shrub in the hole, use your hands to gently break up the root system.
STEP 4) Once the plant is in place, backfill the hole with native soil and any leftover potting material.
STEP 5) Pack down the soil to eliminate any air pockets.
STEP 6) When finished, water thoroughly.
Care Guide

Water apple trees regularly, making sure to keep the soil moist without drowning the tree. Prune in the winter while the tree is growing and in the summer once the tree has reached its desired height.

Was really let down

I ordered several apple trees recently and both of the golden delicious trees I ordered were dead. The qualities of the other trees I received were so good that I was extremely surprised while opening the package on the golden delicious trees. It’s also odd that I receive this feedback email today when all of this was emailed to you 1.5 wks ago when the trees arrived.
