Description

The Saijo is an astringent, self-pollinating persimmon tree that produces a yellowish-orange, sweet fruit. The fruit has very few seeds which makes it ideal for eating fresh. The persimmons ripen in mid-fall and are oblong fruit with a yellow flesh. The Saijo tree also produces white-pink flowers in the late spring or early summer before it fruits, and it boasts of fall foliage. Another attractive quality of the persimmon tree is its high pest resistance. The Saijo has a moderate growth-rate and reaches around 15-25 feet high with a width between 10-12 feet. Plant in full sun or partial shade with moist, well-drained soil. We graft the Saijo persimmon onto native American persimmon root stock.

How to Plant
STEP 1) First, decide on a planting location. Consider carefully what kind of sun, soil, and growing-space your tree or shrub will need.
STEP 2) Once you've located the perfect spot, the hole you are digging must be at least double the width and as deep as the root system you are planting.
STEP 3) Remove the plant from the pot and place the root ball in the hole. The top of the root system should be level with the ground. Before placing the tree or shrub in the hole, use your hands to gently break up the root system.
STEP 4) Once the plant is in place, backfill the hole with native soil and any leftover potting material.
STEP 5) Pack down the soil to eliminate any air pockets.
STEP 6) When finished, water thoroughly.
Care Guide

Plant persimmon trees in full sun to partial shade and in moist, well-drained soil. Water regularly after planting, until tree is established. Persimmon trees need about 40 inches of water every year. Persimmons only need pruning if limbs are crossing or in order to control the tree's size.

This tree is healthy, larger than anticipated, well-packed, and shipped quickly. I was happy they shipped during the summer, since my little one suddenly died. It is healthy and doesn’t look like the heat bothered it in transit. The soil was moist and I was able to place it outside immediately. Thanks for a great tree!

Really nice tree.

Just got my saijo persimmon tree yesterday and I just have to say it's the best looking tree I've ever gotten shipped to me. It was very well packed and looked healthy and vigorous. I got her in the ground right away. Hoping I did a good enough job to keep this tree happy.
