The Chestnut Oak produces acorns that are about 1.5 inches long and are usually light to dark brown in color that mature in late September to October. The acorns can provide a quality, easy meal for deer and other wildlife. It is intermediately shade tolerant and prefers dryer upland soil. In the fall, the leaves turn yellowish-orange to a rusty color. The thick bark ranges in color between dark-red and black, with broad rounded scaly ridges. At maturity, the Chestnut Oak can reach a height of 80-145 feet. USDA ZONES: Zone 4, Zone 5, Zone 6, Zone 7, Zone 8.
Most PlantMeGreen trees can be shipped and planted any time of year, unless the variety is specified as only seasonal delivery. Packages are typically shipped within 7-10 days from the time of your order. You will receive a tracking email upon confirmation of your PlantMeGreen purchase. On some occasions, severe weather and other unusual issues can delay shipping and delivery of your PlantMeGreen package. Delivery time cannot be guaranteed, if a package needs to arrive prior to a specific date, or at a more convenient time for you, please notate that upon placement of your order.
First, decide on a planting location. Consider carefully what kind of sun, soil, and growing-space your tree will need. Once you've located the perfect spot, the hole you are digging must be at least double the width and as deep as the root system you are planting. The top of the root system should be level with the ground. Before placing the tree in the hole, use your hands to gently break up the root system. Once the tree is in place, backfill the hole with native soil and any leftover potting material. Pack down the soil to eliminate any air pockets. When finished, water thoroughly. To insure your plants a successful growth rate and productive life, refer to the brochure included in your PlantMeGreen package.
Deep, moist but well-drained soils preferred (slightly acidic--pH 4.5-7.0). These oaks thrive in a wide range of hardiness zones as well. Once planted, they should grow and thrive on their own with little (if any) attention needed. One of the best nut trees available for any landscape setting.
