The Little Gem Magnolia is the perfect tree for your yard if you are seeking a smaller version of the evergreen magnolia without sacrificing any of the usual beauty. The Little Gem reaches only 20-25 feet with a spread of 8-12 feet and has a slow growth-rate, approximately 1 1/2 feet per year. The Little Gem is recognized for its prolific flowering that lasts 6 months of the year, which lasts from May through October. It can flower in two to three years. The Little Gem Magnolia produces large fragrant creamy white saucer shaped flowers that are 8 inches wide. The Little Gem has beautiful shaped oblong leaves that are 5 to 7 inches long and 2 to 3 inches wide. Little Gems have small leaves that are stiff and leathery with a deep glossy green color on top and a bronze-brown fuzzy underside. It still produces the characteristic fragrant, creamy white flowers and, in fact, tends to bloom more than the Bracken Brown Beauty. This magnolia makes a great specimen tree. Little Gem is hardy to 5 degrees. . USDA ZONES: Zone 7, Zone 8, Zone 9, Zone 10.

STEP 1) First, decide on a planting location. Consider carefully what kind of sun, soil, and growing-space your tree or shrub will need.
STEP 2) Once you've located the perfect spot, the hole you are digging must be at least double the width and as deep as the root system you are planting.
STEP 3) Remove the plant from the pot and place the root ball in the hole. The top of the root system should be level with the ground. Before placing the tree or shrub in the hole, use your hands to gently break up the root system.
STEP 4) Once the plant is in place, backfill the hole with native soil and any leftover potting material.
STEP 5) Pack down the soil to eliminate any air pockets.
STEP 6) When finished, water thoroughly.

Plant in well-drained, acidic soil and in full sun or partial shade. Make sure the tree has plenty of room to grow to its full size. Mulch creating a 3-4 inch layer at base but leave room at the trunk of the tree. Water regularly for the first few years until your magnolia is established. Magnolias need 40-80 inches of water every year. Prune, as needed, in winter after bloom period.

Will shop here again

My Little Gem Magnolia tree arrived quickly and in great condition. It was well packaged and looks very healthy. We transferred it to a slightly larger pot for the winter and plan to plant it outside in the spring.

Loved it, but unfortunately didn't last

We bought this tree in memory of our son that we lost, but unfortunately the tree died within four days. I have been waiting to write my review to see if I could nurture it back to life, but it's brown and not looking good. Pretty bummed but understand that it's probably just me not having a green thumb or something.
