The Paw Paw is a great choice if you are looking to add a dash of the tropics to your yard or garden area. The leaves of the Paw Paw are large and drooping with a tropical look to them. In April and May the small tree produces beautiful large flowers before producing medium-sized, edible fruit. The fruit has an unusual taste, somewhat like a mix of banana, pineapple, and mango. The tree is smallish, growing to only about 15-20 feet high and 20 feet wide. It has a rounded, upward growth habit that works well for group planting. The Paw Paw prefers full sun to partial shade and loose soil. It is hardy in Zones 5-9 and requires more than one tree in order to pollinate and produce fruit. Our Paw Paw trees are grown from seedlings, they are not grafted. Paw Paw trees grown from seeds normally begin flowering and fruiting in 4-8 years, depending on location and the care the tree receives. USDA ZONES:Zone 5, Zone 6, Zone 7, Zone 8, Zone 9

STEP 1) First, decide on a planting location. Consider carefully what kind of sun, soil, and growing-space your tree or shrub will need.
STEP 2) Once you've located the perfect spot, the hole you are digging must be at least double the width and as deep as the root system you are planting.
STEP 3) Remove the plant from the pot and place the root ball in the hole. The top of the root system should be level with the ground. Before placing the tree or shrub in the hole, use your hands to gently break up the root system.
STEP 4) Once the plant is in place, backfill the hole with native soil and any leftover potting material.
STEP 5) Pack down the soil to eliminate any air pockets.
STEP 6) When finished, water thoroughly.

Plant your Paw Paw in a sunny area that has slightly acidic soil. Try to find an area that is also sheltered from strong winds. Water regularly during the tree's first growing season. Fertilize in the spring and summer.

Update to “Just What I Needed”

I’m updating my previous 5-star review. My first tree looks wonderful and gets fuller every week. The second tree I purchased died before budding leaves. I was given a replacement that came with small leaves on it (exciting!) then it developed brown spots and also died. I’m assuming it’s not user error as these are the only thing in my garden dying. I even planted the replacement in a different spot to make sure that wasn’t the problem. So far I’m 1 out of three for pawpaws from Plantmegreen. I appreciate that they don’t have a fee if you want the guarantee but it must be limited to one replacement and you have to pay the shipping fee. Since the plant was only a little over $30, I will just look for one elsewhere to pollinate the one I have.

Just What I Needed for Shaded Space

I’m quite excited that about my paw paw trees. I purchased the first then read they do better in multiples so I purchased a second tree. I received them rather quickly. The boxes were well packed and arrived in excellent condition. The first one I purchased was kept inside for several months through the winter and now has green on it. The second one hasn’t sprouted leaves yet (only planted about two weeks ago) but I’m confident it will. I’ve never heard of paw paws before seeing them on this website but my yard doesn’t get much sun so they are just what I never knew I wanted :)

Paw Paw trees

Trees arrived well packaged and look wonderful. They are bigger than we thought they'd be and look healthy. Can't wait to plant them.

Very beautiful and healthy trees

Awesome customer service.
